Kerry Global Technology and Innovation Centre

Kerry Groups recently built €100m Global Innovation Centre in Kildare contains 3 blocks with glass facades and Rockbrook were engaged to design and implement a solar shading control system.

Project details

Kerry supplies over 18,000 foods, food ingredients and flavour products to customers in more than 140 countries worldwide. Their recently built €100m Global Technology and Innovation centre is located in Naas, Co. Kildare. The four block innovation centre is a research and development hub for food science. Three blocks of this large facility have full glass facades all around.

Rockbrook implemented a complex Solar Shading Control System (SSCS) utilising KNX technology in order to protect occupants from solar glare and heat gain whilst maintaining as much natural daylight penetration as possible. Some features of the system are:

· KNX GPS enabled weather station for accurate solar tracking and blind angle calculation. Façade light and temperature sensors at all block facades

· Over 500 KNX blind control devices with local manual control available for individual spaces as required

· Precise blind angle calculation dependent on time of year, sun position and sun presence at each individual block facade

· Comprehensive graphical front end monitoring and trending SSCS operation
